Day 01 AIR PORT / KITULGALA
Warmly welcome at the air port and transfer to Colombo

Leave to Kitulgala

Arrival and transfer to Kithulgala by coach. Check in at Kithulgala Rest House. Enjoy your lunch at the Rest House. The small Kelani River community of Kitulgala made its mark on the map when it became the site of filming of the famous 1957 Oscar-winning film ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’.  On the hill above the town lies the prehistoric Belilena Cave , which is of much interest to paleontologists and CAVING fanatics because it has been found to contain large middens of shells from some unknown civilization.  However the town is most famous as the location for WHITE WATER RAFTING trips in Sri Lanka, offering some excellent rapids down the river.
In the late afternoon enjoy a nature trek at Kithulgala Rain Forrest.  Kithulgala Rain Forest has some fine patches of lowland rain forest. Famed as the site for the filming of The Bridge on the River Kwai, it is an excellent place for introduction to the birds of Sri Lanka, including most of the lowland rainforest endemics. Crested Serpent-Eagle, Ceylon Spur fowl (maybe), Ceylon Hanging-Parrot, Layard's Parakeet, Green-billed Coucal, Chestnut-backed Owlet, Ceylon Frogmouth, Indian Swiftlet, Yellow-fronted and Crimson-fronted Barbets, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Indian Scimitar-Babbler, Orange-billed and Yellow-billed Babblers, Large-billed Leaf-Warbler, Brown-breasted Flycatcher, Asian Paradise-Flycatcher, White-browed Fantail, Pale-billed Flowerpecker, Purple-rumped Sunbird, Ceylon Myna, and Ceylon Magpie are some of the possibilities to witness.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kithulgala Rest House.

Day 02 KITULGALA / MURUTHATENNA CAMP
After breakfast enjoy a thrilling adventure on the white water sections of Kelani River which is suitable for amateurs as well as professionals alike. During the run you will experience the thrill of shooting rapids and euphoria of making it through. The river’s clear water is born in the heart of the peak wilderness reserve and tumbles through a rocky gorge just above Kitulgala.
As the river widens we pass the scenic location used for the film - “Bridge over the river Kwai” filmed in 1956-, which is also a good place to jump in for a refreshing swim. On a clear day, you may even dive to see the remains of the actual bridge and carriages used for the film (only for experienced divers with proper equipment.). Our journey, ends close to Kitulgala town.
After the rafting, check out from the Rest House and transfer to place where you start of the Challenge, crossing the Kelani River we trek 15 K.M up the Kelani valley to Muruthatenna tea estate. Using a mixture of village footpaths and quite back roads. Picnic lunch will be served en-route. Reach your camping place situated in Muruthatenna Junior School, which is close to the spectacular Laxapana waterfalls. Rest at your campsite.
Dinner and overnight stay at Muruthatenna Camp Site. (Tents)

Day 03 MURUTHATENNA /ADAMS PEAK
Leaving to Adams Peak Wilderness Sanctuary

After an early breakfast at campsite, we continue our 14 K.M ascent towards the Peak wilderness, crossing the boulder-strewn river to avoid some leech infested jungle trails. Arriving late afternoon at our guesthouse or Maskeliya Bungalow for lunch. Enjoy your lunch and have a rest before you start the pilgrim’s climb of Adam’s Peak. In the late afternoon start the climb of the Adam’s Peak. This will be a lifetime experience because you have to climb with thousands of local pilgrims since it is the season.  You will never feel tired on this 14 K.M up and down climb because it is very interactive with locals. This 2243 metre peak has a great significance for various different religions.  The huge footprint at the summit is believed by Buddhists to be that of Lord Buddha (‘Sri Pada’), whilst Christians suggest that it was where Adam
first set foot on earth, and Hindus claim that it belongs to Lord Shiva.  As a result, the peak has been a pilgrimage centre for over 1000 years.  Whatever it’s religious significance, this famous landmark offers some breathtaking views of the hill country.  The majority of climbers begin their ascent at night in order to arrive at the top in time for a magical sunrise when the mystical shadow of the peak is perfectly cast across the clouds.  It is one of those truly unique moments that will live on in your memory long after the aches and pains from the climb have gone! Return to the Guest House OR Maskeliya Bungalow for dinner.

Day 04 BOGAWANTALAWA / KINCHGUNE
Leaving to Bogawantalawa for Trekking Trail.
After breakfast, transfer to Bogawanthalawa by vans. (Local Transport) Beginning in the Bogowanthalawa tea plantation itself, you then start a rapid ascent of 28 K.M up through a jungle terrain. When you come out of the jungle, you reach a more open terrain, similar to the landscape of the famous ‘Horton Plains’ (which is situated slightly higher).  You are sure to see the footprints of the leopards and sambhar deer  (you may even spot the animals themselves if you are very lucky!).  Along the way, you will follow the river, also noticing a number of man-made holes (the result of the gem-mining that goes on in the area). You will then go back into a scrub jungle area where the next part of the trail takes you on a footpath towards the ‘Non-Pereil’ tea estate. On the way, you will cross the Belihuloya River – an ideal place to take a break for picnic lunch and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. On coming out of the ‘jungle tunnel’, you can see for miles beyond, including the ‘Samanalawewa’ reservoir and the dam itself.  You will pass the tea plucker’s houses, vegetable plots, a small nursery school before reaching the ‘Non Pareil’ tea plantation itself. Heading down through the tea plantation, you will get to a more rocky area, you will continue on forest patches where you can see bear monkeys and a wide variety of birds.  This part of the descent is rather steep – the panoramic views are incredible!   The last part of the trail leads down through a dense pine tree plantation and finishes up at the small village of ‘Galpothuthenna’. Transfer to your campsite by local transport.

Day 05 KINCHGUNE / SINHARAJA

Out of the vegetation found in this forest 70% are endemic to Sri Lanka, out of which 32% are endemic to this particular forest. The canopy trees reach heights up to 45 metres, with the next layer dropping about 30m. There are 45 species of reptiles, 21 of which are endemic.  Venomous snakes including the green-pit viper, which inhabits trees, the hump-nosed viper and the krait, which lives on the forest floor. One of the most frequently found amphibians is the wrinkled frog, whose croak is often heard at night. There is a prolific bird life in the forest - 147 species have been recorded with 18 of Sri Lanka’s 26 endemic species being seen here.  For the less welcome inhabitants of the rainforest, our guides will take preventative measures to protect you, providing salt and some tips about how and when to use it. Check in at campsite, which is located on a peninsula in the forest and surrounded by two rivers (deep enough for swimming) and just beyond a tea plantation (where you will see the traditional tea pluckers in action).  Even without leaving the camp itself, so much can be seen – so let the nature come to you!  The peaceful camp is an ideal location for early morning bird watching before a fascinating nature trail through the forest.
