This could be known as the highest venerated religious place with steeped in cultural heritage attracting and the highest respect of the Buddhists as well as the other religions all over the world.

According to history records, The Temple of Tooth Relic is the final location of the sacred tooth relic of the lord Buddha which was brought to Sri Lanka during the reign of king “Keerthi Sri Megawarna” by prince “Dantha” and Princess “Hemamala” from the kingdom of Kalingu India.

The entire temple complex, from peaked tiled roofs to white walls with huge airy windows, was built using traditional Kandyan architecture. The main shrine has two floors. There are various chambers in the floors including the one where the tooth relic is kept known as ‘handun kunama’. The door to that chamber is carved in ivory and inside the tooth rests on seven gemstone-studded golden caskets. Tevava’ would mean a service ritual conducted daily at regular times of the day in the morning, noon, and evening to the sacred tooth relic.

Ramboda Falls

The Ramboda Ella (Puna Ella) double fall is unique in the ‘Y’ form where two waterfalls with two water sources merge in to one at the bottom. The water in the fall on the left is from the Puna Oya, A canal which comes through the forest reserve above.

The fall on the right-hand side is made up from water from Pundalu Oya which flows through cultivated land above. Most of the year the fall flowing through the Pundalu Oya carry more volume but during periods of long drought the role is reversed. The water on flowing on the left fall remains more or less the same while the water on the other fall reduces significantly.

Ramboda Tunnel

Ramboada road Tunnel is currently the longest road tunnel in Sri Lanka and located Gampola – Nuwara Eliya road, close to Ramboda falls.
Romboda Tunnel was constructed with Japanese Government Funding. This 225m tunnel construction was started in year 2006 and opened for general public on 2008, February.

Devathura Falls

Formerly known as ‘Thevatura Falls’ (Tea Waterfall), the Peratas Tea Estate and factory are located above. The Devathura Ella Falls cascades over several platforms, though only a 10m section is visible from the road, and eventually joins the Kotmale Reservoir.

The surrounding area is rich in both flora and fauna, with plant life including erabadu (Erythrina Indica). This makes for a serene setting; thus, it is popular with visitors.

The waterfall lies just before the new Ramboda Tunnel. Today this road looks quite narrow and is not being used for vehicle traffic. Walking about 20 meters on this road you can see how one of the rocks has been cut in to build the road during the British occupation.
